League’s evaluation of Hansen incomplete

We appreciate the work of the citizens who volunteer for the Municipal League’s Candidate Evaluation Committee. However, we were astonished by the evaluation in the Shoreline City Council races, in particular, Mr. Ron Hansen for position 7.

Candidate Ron Hansen has been subject to investigation and disciplinary actions by the Washington State Board of Accountancy.

Mr. Hansen’s CPA license was first suspended in 2001 for unprofessional conduct. On Jan. 16, 2009, Ron Hansen’s CPA license was revoked.

The investigation found that Mr. Hansen:

“…borrowed money from estate funds for personal use without authorization; failed to provide a timely accounting of an estate …; failed to comply with a court order; and continued association of the CPA title with Hansen’s name after the suspension of Hansen CPA certificate and individual and firm licenses in April 2001.”

The disciplinary actions and sanctions against Mr. Hansen are;

“Revocation of CPA certificate and eligibility to renew or reinstate practice licenses for 10 years…”

We are sure the committee was not aware of the fiduciary violations by Mr. Hansen or the disciplinary sanctions. It does, however, bring into question the reliability and integrity of the Municipality League Evaluation Process.
