Music in the Parks — throughout the month of July

The city of Everett’s annual Music in the Parks series runs from June through August and includes free, live music. Among the offerings for July are:

n From the Thursday Night Waterfront Series, which runs from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays at Port Gardner Landing, 1600 W. Marine View Drive: Randy Norris and the Full Degree (rock ’n’ soul, rhythm and blues) on July 3; Nathan Chance &NorthCoast (industrialized country) on July 10; Sol’Jibe (world acoustic flamenco rock) on July 17; DoctorfunK (prescription for soul) on July 24; and Stickshift Annie with Kimball and the Fugitives (roadhouse blues, jazz and swing) on July 31.

n From the Sunday Afternoon Waterfront Series, which runs from 2 to 4 p.m. Sundays at Port Gardner Landing: Hot Club Sandwich (sizzling Django-inspired Gypsy jazz) on July 6; The Tim Koss Quartet (classic jazz favorites) on July 13; Incendio (world guitar fusion) on July 20; and Tingstad &Rumbel (Grammy-winning acoustic instrumentals) on July 27.

n From the Children’s Series, which runs from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursdays at Silver Lake, Thornton A. Sullivan Park, 11405 Silver Lake Road: Tim Noah (Emmy-winning Northwest favorite) on July 10; the Brian Waite Band (music for families) on July 17; the Blues Berries (blues for young people) on July 24; and Dana &Rowdy (award-winning participatory music) on July 31.

n From the Teen Series, which runs from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturdays at Wiggum Hollow Skatepark, 2808 10th St.: Handful of Luvin’ (high-energy folk rock) on July 12 and Left Hand Smoke (catchy hooks and soulful melodies) on July 26.

Fourth of July celebrations throughout the county — July 4

In Snohomish County, there are more parades, festivals and pancake breakfasts — not to mention fireworks displays — than you can shake a stick at on July 4. Here’s a roundup:

n In Arlington, the fun gets under way with a 7 to 10 a.m. pancake breakfast and an 8 a.m. Pedal, Paddle, Puff Triathlon, both at Haller Park. At noon, there is the Kiwanis Auction, also at Haller Park, followed by the Grand Parade at 5 p.m. along Olympic Avenue. Then it’s back to Haller Park for the 7:30 p.m. Stilly Duck Dash. The day is capped off at 9 p.m. with a fireworks display at the Arlington Boys &Girls Club. For more information, go online to www.ci.arlington.wa.us.

n A community pancake breakfast held from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the firehouse at 10726 Beardslee Blvd. kicks off Bothell’s Independence Day celebration, which continues at 11 a.m. with a children’s parade and at noon with the main parade in downtown Bothell. A re-enactment of the Battle of Concord follows from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Park at Bothell Landing. For more information, go online to www.ci.bothell.wa.us.

n Darrington’s Fourth of July festivities include a parade at 1 p.m. followed by an old-fashioned fair with live music at Old School Park. A fireworks display also is planned. For more information, call 360-436-1131.

n An Edmonds Kind of Fourth includes a 5K fun run/walk starting at 10 a.m. at Edmonds City Park, an 11:30 a.m. children’s parade and noontime main parade, both in downtown Edmonds, activities at City Park at 2 p.m. followed by entertainment at Edmonds Civic Stadium at 7:30 p.m. A fireworks display at the stadium will follow at nightfall. n Everett’s “Colors of Freedom” Fourth of July Celebration will begin with a pancake breakfast at the The Flying Pig in downtown Everett, followed by the Yankee Doodle Dash Fun Run from 8:30 to 10 a.m., sponsored by the Everett Family YMCA. A downtown parade, sponsored by the Everett Jaycees, follows from 11 a.m. to noon. Immediately following the parade will be live music, a food fair and children’s activities at Legion Memorial Park. A fireworks display is planned for 10:15 p.m. over Port Gardner Bay. For more information, go online to www.everettwa.org.

n Lynnwood will hold a Star-Spangled Celebration from 7 to 10:35 p.m. at the Lynnwood Athletic Complex, with face painting, balloon clowns, jugglers, arts and crafts, live music, and a fireworks show. n Mountlake Terrace will hold its Family Fourth of July at 7 p.m. at Evergreen Playfield, with live music, children’s entertainment, a deejay and other vendors. n Stanwood will have fun, food and fireworks at Heritage Park, with events running from 4 to 11 p.m.

Pilchuck Glass School Open House — July 13

Pilchuck Glass School will hold its annual Open House from noon to 5 p.m. July 13 at the school’s campus, 1201 316th St. NW, near Stanwood. The school opens the gates of its private campus once a year, offering visitors an opportunity to experience the source of inspiration that has made the Pacific Northwest a mecca for glass art.

The cost is $20 for adults, with children 12 and younger admitted for free. Advance reservations are required.

Kla-Ha-Ya Days in Snohomish — July 17 through 20

The city of Snohomish will hold its annual Kla-Ha-Ya Days festival from July 17 through 20. The event will include a Kids Bike Rodeo and Parade on July 17, a golf tournament July 18, a five-mile river run and kids dash July 19, as well as a street fair and arts and crafts festival July 19 and 20. Other events and attractions include a parade, chili cook-off and soap-box grand prix July 19, salmon barbecue July 19 and 20 and a classic car show July 20.

Darrington Bluegrass Festival — July 18 through 20

The 32nd annual Darrington Bluegrass Festival will be held from July 18 through 20 at Darrington Bluegrass

Music Park, off Highway 530 just three miles west of Darrington.

Headliners will include Bobby Osborne &Rocky Top X-press, Blue Highway, Cedar Hill and Lost Highway.

Cost to attend is $50 per person for all three days, plus $20 for camping per RV or tent. Daily admittance is $15 for July 18 (6 p.m. to 11 p.m.), $20 for July 19 (9 a.m. to 11 p.m.) and $15 for July 20 (beginning at 8 a.m.) Children 12 and younger are free with an adult.

Lake Stevens Aquafest — July 25 through 27

Lake Stevens’ annual festival and carnival is scheduled from July 25 through 27 in the downtown core and vicinity. Events and attractions will include the Bite of Lake Stevens food booths, a carnival, arts and crafts, a fireworks display July 26, and the Sunday Family Funfest on July 27.

Edmonds sand-sculpting contest — July 31

An amateur sand-sculpting contest, sponsored by Nama’s Candy Store, will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 31 at Marina Beach, at the south end of Admiral Way, in Edmonds. Judging will begin at noon, with the Golden Bucket Awards announced at 12:30 p.m.
