Seattle Hill Road
Taking back a noise-contaminated street
Hopefully the majority of Mill Creekers read John Santana’s Enterprise article about Seattle Hill Road residents organizing (March 16). It’s imperative that those who are affected by the major Seattle Hill thoroughfare traffic noise join together. We must let our city leaders know this is a major problem.
In the past Santana used my property to conduct a study so he could validate Seattle Hill Road noise. His research supported my contention that the noise level around my house was way over the healthy decibel levels. Santana’s findings were a catalyst in jump-starting our city leaders to investigate this community health problem.
During April some of the Seattle Hill Road freeway will have a reduction in lanes so that a bridge can be built over Penny Creek. The goal is to restore this stream so once again the salmon runs might be increased. This is an honorable project. But an additional gain will be the bridge construction will delay and inconvenience most travelers that they decide to take another route and thus reducing those unnerving traffic sounds.
In the past, nature herself has reduced the vehicles rumbling, backfiring and the vehicles other audible grime on the Seattle Hill thoroughfare. I am truly thankful to our Mother Nature in supporting my cause to limit the noise pollution in our neighborhood. On occasions she has been kind enough to return our neighborhood to its 1993 quiet state, by snowing on and icing the roads. Now it is time for we citizens to collectively come together and take back our noise-contaminated street by making noise ourselves. We must let city hall know we want something done soon that will permanently address this noise and air polluting community health problem.
