AASF rescues creek from horses

For the most part, Tambark Creek is surrounded by growing suburbs of the City of Mill Creek. But there are a few islands of small farms in the watershed. Dianne Anderson has held on to her small horse farm. Not only does she want to keep her farm, she wants to help out the salmon. She’s allowing the Adopt-A-Stream Foundation (AASF) to install fences that will keep her three horses away from the creek.

The AASF team will plant area ranging from 30 to 50 feet-wide along the fence line. The fences will be electrified with solar panels to reduce the horses’ temptation to go in the creek. Thanks to this effort, fish in Penny and Tambark creeks will have a much better summer. The project was funded by a grant from the Washington State Department of Ecology.
