Livingston Taylor, I presume

It’s been nine years between albums for Livingston Taylor, but last year the drought ended with “There You Are Again.”

Taylor performs his folk-pop music April 21 in Bothell.

He’s a classic example of a singer-songwriter who has created a decades-long career without topping the charts. His last top-40 single was “First Time Love” in 1980 but his warm personality-laced concert performances and solid recordings have carried him.

“There You Are Again” is a collection of charming (at least once past the opening and too-sweet “Best of Friends”) and upbeat songs that will please his fan base. In this CD, the baritone includes a few songs that express his Christian faith either directly or indirectly.

He’s part of the Livingston siblings (James, Kate) who have carved out their own careers. The similarity to older brother’s James voice is still there, although there is more stress on gospel and jazz nuances than his brother tends to do.

Now a full professor, Taylor lectures regularly at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and gives an annual seminar at Harvard University.
