Local teen musicians will take to the stage April 1 when the Seattle Theatre Group presents its 5th annual “More Music @ The Moore Theatre” performance.
Brier’s Katie Jacobson, rock band Capitol Basement and Bothell resident Evan Anderson are among a select group young performers who have been selected for the 2006 program.
Show casing teen musicians pursuing a career in music, “More Music @ The Moore” features eight performing acts highlighting a range of musical styles including R&B, rap, pop, rock, jazz and contemporary classical. STG Artist-in-Residence Daniel Bernard Roumain, a New York based composer and musician, will rehearse and perform with teen string players for his work “24 Bits: Hip-Hop Studies and Etudes” and create a new work in collaboration with strings and other performers in the concert.
Produced by STG’s Education and Outreach Department, “More Music @ The Moore” is offered as a training and performance program for selected young artists representing diverse music genres. The program provides them the tools and the setting to rehearse, record and perform original music under the direction of mentors and music industry professionals. Each performer is provided with rehearsal time, workshops and recording sessions as well as production and promotional support. This training and rehearsal process culminates with the opportunity for the participating student musicians to perform live at a professional venue, The Moore Theatre.
For 2006’s event, project director Carlene Brown is joined by a mentoring team of local music professionals as Dave Dederer from the Presidents of the United States of America, Sue Ennis, songwriter for Heart, jazz vocalist Kelley Johnson, Felicia Loud, vocalist and stage performer, Jayne Muirhead, musical theatre artist, Michael Shrieve, original drummer for Santana, Reggie Watts, vocalist for Maktub and Alan White, drummer from the rock band Yes. The musical emcee is Earl Maneein, violinist for DBR &The Mission.
