A man accused of stealing $18 in lottery tickets from a Thrasher’s Corner convenience store April 24 was charged Wednesday, April 27, with trying to elude a Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy during a high-speed chase while his 9-month-old daughter was in the back seat of the car.

Matthew Brian Pilkenton, 25, of Bothell was being held on $10,000 bail.

Deputy prosecutor Chris Dickinson said deputies were looking for the man after the lottery ticket theft and spotted his car in a parking lot in the 19700 block of Filbert Road east of Lynnwood.

A woman was in the passenger seat and his baby girl was in the back seat, Dickinson said.

Pilkenton drove away from the officer, accelerating to 60 mph in a 35-mph zone, Dickinson said. He allegedly drove into oncoming traffic, ran a red light, avoided spike strips laid out by another officer, ran another car into a ditch and nearly overturned on a tight turn, Dickinson said.

The car had mechanical problems and crashed through a chain-link fence in Lynnwood. While the car was still moving, Pilkenton jumped out and ran with the passengers still inside, Dickinson said.
