EDMONDS
Lynnwood sophomore Amanda Overdick earned a return trip to state in the high jump and also made it in the 400 meters at the 3A District 1 track meet May 18 at Edmonds Stadium.
Overdick cleared 4 feet, 10 inches in the high jump to finish second behind Shorecrest’s Molly Gibson, who also cleared 4-10, but in fewer tries.
Overdick cleared 5-0 to earn an eighth-place medal at state last year in the high jump.
“Anything higher than eighth and I’ll be happy,” she said of her outlook for state.
Overdick finished second in the 400 meters with a time of 1 minute, 1.55 seconds.
“I kind of died here,” Overdick said, pointing to the last 100 meters of the track. “I was able to stick it through so that was good.”
The top two finishers in each event qualified for the state 3A meet in Pasco May 25-26.
Lynnwood’s Alec Williams qualified for state in the 110 hurdles with a second-place time of 15.83 seconds behind J. Hopkins of Everett. This will be the sophomore’s first trip to Pasco.
“I hit a lot of hurdles today,” said Williams, who had the fastest preliminary time. “I’m just happy that it’s over. It goes so fast. I was just trying to keep up with first place.”
Lynnwood’s Dylan Burnett-Lewis finished second in the javelin with a throw of 173 feet, 10 inches to earn a state berth.
Everett won the boys title with 179.5 points. Meadowdale’s boys team finished seventh with 35 points, but did not send anyone on to state. The Lynnwood boys finished eighth out of nine teams with 23 points.
On the girls side, Shorecrest won with 113 points. Meadowdale finished seventh with 39 points and Lynnwood finished ninth with 33 points.
