Diver rescued in Edmonds

A scuba diver was taken by paramedics to Stevens Hospital after fellow divers responded to his calls for help and pulled him to shore in Edmonds Sunday, Jan. 3.

Firefighters and police responded at 12:16 p.m. to a report of a diver in distress at the Brackett’s Landing Underwater Park just north of the Edmonds Ferry Dock. The diver surfaced three times yelling for help, then went under and didn’t come back up, according to Leslie Hynes, public information officer for Snohomish County Fire District 1.

Ron Migas, of Everett, and his dive partner located the diver under 15 feet of water about 50 feet from a jetty. Migas brought the unconscious diver to the surface and a dive park volunteer assisted towing the man to shore. Firefighters arrived as the diver was brought to shore unconscious.

The man remained unconscious when paramedics transported him to Stevens Hospital, where his condition was considered life threatening. The identity of the victim has not been released.
