Fans of indie music are in for a treat as Lynnwood Bowl and Skate hosts a listening party for nationally recognized psychedelic pop band of Montreal, 5-7 p.m. on Aug. 21.
Lynnwood Bowl and Skate is located at 6210 200th St. SW, Lynnwood. Admission is $7.
The event is intended to give Northwest of Montreal fans a chance to hear the band’s newest album, “False Priest,” in its entirety before its Sept. 14 release date. The band itself will not be in attendance. The skating soundtrack will be supplemented with other songs from the bands catalog, which reaches back to the late 1990s. It’s the only event of its kind in the country.
Of Montreal’s eccentric music pairs nicely with less-traditional events they host to promote it – such as a skating party.
“The band has a large following in the Northwest, and Lynnwood is one of the last successful roller rinks in the country,” said the band’s publicity manager, Frank Nieto.
The band’s last listening party in the region was held at the Laser Dome in Seattle.
In addition to hearing the album, there will be a costume contest for fans dressing up like their favorite of Montreal character or band member. The band is known for its elaborate costuming during stage shows.
Prizes include tickets to of Montreal’s Oct. 27 show at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle.
