LYNNWOOD — At its regular meeting March 10, the Lynnwood City Council voted unanimously to stop further negotiations with the Edmonds School District regarding capital construction costs of the Cedar Valley Community School Gym.

City officials have said they have been denied use of the gym and the two agencies never signed an agreement when it came to use and parking, so Lynnwood won’t pay the $877,000 they first had planned on paying for a upsized gym, they requested.

According to a letter dated April 4, 2002 to Lynnwood Mayor Mike McKinnon from Edmonds School District superintendent Wayne Robertson, if the city does declare an impasse, as they have, then the district has two choices: “Terminating the Capital Agreement, with the district and city sharing, in proportion to their original funding obligation, all expenses incurred up to the date of termination, or initiating a collaborative settlement process.”

This, Carlstad said, could include the city paying the money and still not getting any use.
