Shoreline Police and King County Fire Investigators on Oct. 28 arrested a 19-year-old male who is believed to be involved in two arsons that occurred at Shorecrest High School during the summer.
No one was injured in either fire.
King County Fire Investigators arrested the man, a Shoreline resident, at his home, said Melanie Granfors, spokeswoman for the Shoreline Fire Department.
The man, a former Shorecrest High School student, was booked into King County Jail on four charges, including two arson charges, theft of a motor vehicle and manufacturing an incendiary device, said Lawrence Canary, assistant fire marshal and supervisor of the fire investigation unit.
The incendiary device, Canary said, is a device the man made. Canary declined to say how the man was connected to the arsons, both of which occurred at Shorecrest.
“In the course of the investigation, we were able to come up with a variety of items of evidence that linked him,” Canary said.
The first arson involved a stolen and torched 1998 Jeep and the most recent arson involved a portable structure where health classes were once held, which was completely destroyed. The building was located at the south end of the campus, near the ball fields and close to the southwest corner of the J Building.
The damage estimate for the second arson was about $40,000 said Shoreline fire marshal Jack Nankervis. Half of this amount was the cost of the portable building and the other half accounts for the contents of the building.
The man was arraigned Oct. 29, and Canary said the amount of jail time is yet to be determined.
