KENNEWICK — Mukilteo Mayor Joe Marine was elected vice president of the Association of Washington Cities by the membership at its 80th annual conference in Kennewick.
Marine will serve a one-year term in this leadership position of the private, non-profit, non-partisan corporation that represents and serves Washington’s 281 cities and towns.
The 25-member AWC Board provides specific guidance on the organization’s legislative proposals, adopts its operating budget and advises the staff on implementation of the AWC strategic plan. He previously served as AWC’s secretary-treasurer, Education Committee chair and as a member of the Legislative Committee.
Marine is serving his second term as mayor, having first been elected in 2005. Previously he served on the Mukilteo City Council from January 1998 until January 2001, when he was appointed to the Washington State House of Representatives’ 21st Legislative District.
He is a self-employed insurance agent, specializing in Medicare and the long-term care needs of senior citizens. He sits on the executive board of the Puget Sound Regional Council and serves as the board chair for Community Transit.
