SHORELINE — With its win over Shorecrest and Edmonds-Woodway’s upset of Meadowdale Tuesday night, Mariner created some breathing room at the top of the Western Conference 4A South Division.
Behind their stifling defense, the league-leading Marauders overpowered the Scots 57-42 at Shorecrest High School to improve to 11-2 in the division and 13-2 overall.
The Scots lost for the eighth time in nine games, falling to 3-11 and 4-13.
Shorecrest played the Marauders even in the second half but by then it was too late. After Tyson Cook drained back-to-back 3-pointers to shrink the Scots’ deficit to 22-20, Mariner mounted a 13-0 run over the final 1:33 of the second period to pull ahead 35-20 at the break.
Five Marauders scored eight or more points and Mariner was 13-for-14 from the free throw line. Senior forward Graham Morrisey scored 10 of his game-high 16 points in the third quarter for Shorecrest.
