Mayor Gary Haakenson declared Wednesday, March 7, as Port of Edmonds Day in the city.

The proclamation was in honor of the accomplishments over the past 10 years by port director Chris Keuss, port commissioners Marianne Burkhart, Fred Gouge, James Orvis, Bruce Faires and Mary Lou Block, and port staff “to make this the premier port in the nation.” A decade ago, the port was devastated by a heavy snowstorm followed by torrential rain that collapsed almost all of the port’s covered moorage and other structures. Since then, the port has rebuilt and expanded and in January was named “Marina of the Year” award for 2006 from Marina Dock Age magazine.
