BOTHELL – State Sen. Rosemary McAuliffe, D-Bothell, announced at a campaign kick-off event April 25 that she would seek re-election.
McAuliffe said she is seeking a fourth Senate term representing the First District because she wants to “continue to provide leadership on important issues like education and transportation.”
McAuliffe lists among her accomplishments becoming the first recipient of the John Stanford Lifetime Achievement Award for Education. “High standards, quality teachers, safer schools, and improved funding are just a few of the things that I am proud of having helped to make happen,” McAuliffe said.
On transportation, “unfortunately, many have lost confidence in government’s ability to address our transportation problems and I’m working very hard to turn that around,” McAuliffe said. “Performance audits, better planning, and other cost-saving measures are beginning to make a difference.”
McAuliffe said she helped secure funding for a south access road for the UW-Bothell and Cascade Community College. “That project will go a long way toward relieving congestion and improving access in the area,” she said.
McAuliffe said she has stayed in touch with her constituents by visiting with them at the doorstep.
“That input has made me a better legislator because I am in touch with the opinions of my constituents,” she said. “Having good communication and open dialogue is important.”
McAuliffe has 32 years of public service beginning with the Northshore School Board. In the state Senate, she has chaired the Education Committee and served on the Health Care, Transportation, and Higher Education Committees. She is currently serving on K-12 Education and Human Services and Corrections. She has been married to Jim McAuliffe for 40 years, has six children and 11 grandchildren.
