The Mountlake Terrace Arts Commission hosts the owrks of photographer Dick McMahon at the Mountlake Terrace Library through Jan. 31.
A Seattle resident since 1953, photographer Dick McMahon has had a lot of time to amass an eye-catching collection of things. Along with a talent for recognizing photogenic subjects, McMahon has perfected his skills as a photographer by being mostly self-taught through books, photo seminars, studying the works of other well-known photographers and shooting lots of film.
Since his early retirement in 1992, McMahon has provided photography instruction for Kits Camera stores. He also served as an instructor for the Arboretum Foundation, City of SeaTac, Northshore Center, Shoreline Center, University of Washington Women’s Center and the Victory Heights 4-H.
McMahon has won numerous awards including Best of Show for his Peacock Feather Abstract, Purchase Award for “Schoolhouse at Bothell Landing” which is part of the Shoreline Historical Collection, and First Place in the City of SeaTac for Serendipity and Purchase Award. He also received a First Place for Best of the Northwest Challenge. His photos have been published in the Kodak Viewfinder Forum, Inner Reflections Calendar, Northshore Newspaper and the Best of Photography Annual. He is a member of the Seattle Photographic Society and Northwest Council of Camera Clubs.
