The Meadowdale girls soccer team got its first post-season victory in three years with its 2-0 decision over Squalicum Oct. 27 at Civic Stadium in Bellingham.

Kaeli Eberth scored a goal and had an assist to lead the Mavericks.

The opening 20 minutes saw roughly even play by both sides, with neither team able to break down the opponent’s defense. Meadowdale maintained control of the midfield and its defense kept Squalicum to only one shot in the first half.

At the 21-minute mark, senior midfielder Alexandra Navlet pushed a ball through a slot in the Squalicum defense, causing the two defenders to run into each other and miss the ball. Eberth ran the ball down in the left side of the box and beat the Squalicum keeper high at the back post.

At the stoppage after the goal, the Mavericks made a couple of adjustments and controlled much of the rest of the contest.
