The Everett boys basketball team decided early on how they were going to play in their Wesco 3A crossover game against Meadowdale on Feb. 16
“We pounded the ball in,” Aaron Nations, the Everett basketball coach said.
Everett upset Meadowdale 47-36 at Arlington High School, giving the Seagulls the No. 1 seed from Wesco heading into the 3A District 1 tournament.
David Safstrom had 10 of Everett’s 12 points in the first quarter by getting rebounds and putting back shots.
“(It) set the tone for the night,” Nations said.
Safstrom, who finished with 20 points and seven rebounds, also had a two-handed slam dunk with about 45 seconds left in the game to assure the victory for the Seagulls.
Everett’s other big statistic came from the free-throw line, where the Seagulls were 16-for-18, including a perfect eight-for-eight in the fourth quarter, to help put Meadowdale away.
Milan Moncrief had eight of his 13 points in the fourth quarter and Nero Threet also had 13 points for the Mavericks.
