Edmonds’ Kindred Circle Art Gallery is celebrating its fifth year of business in the visual arts market with the inauguration of its new performance arts wing, Kindred Circle Players.
The Players’ first project is the world premiere of “Penny Upstart and the Widget War” in February 2005 at Everett’s PUD Auditorium. Thursday evening, Nov. 18.
You can meet Penny Upstart in person. She will be showing off the winner and runners-up of a poster contest sponsored by Kindred Circle. Artists from all over the region submitted works for consideration. One lucky artist was chosen and the selection will be unveiled this evening in conjunction with the Third Thursday Art Walk.
“Penny Upstart and the Widget War” is the whimsical story of cute, confident, perky, and hip Penny’s attempts to navigate her first days on the job at The Widget Factory: fending off the advances of the ferret-like TeraByte Underling, befriending the reclusively shy Francis Wannabee, dodging the tyrannical Mrs. Parched, and helping the hapless Mr. DoGood steer his company out of a hostile takeover attempt by the nefarious Mr. Overbearing. All this, Penny attempts, while still leaving time for coffee breaks.
Tickets go on sale this evening as well, and include opportunities for a sneak preview and an opening night extravaganza.
Artistic Director Jeff Stilwell who wrote and will direct “Widget War” is following up his well-received “No Middle Ground,” which Stilwell also wrote and directed, in Seattle in Nov. 2002.
