The two emergency medical services levies that were on the ballot in the city of Mill Creek and the area served by Snohomish County Fire District 7, appear to be passing.
Results posted Wednesday, Nov. 3 showed the two levies passing with more than 60 percent approval, the minimum amount required for passage.
The close race, however, is in the city of Mill Creek, where the levy was receiving 60.06 percent yes votes. The situation was different in unincorporated Snohomish County served by District 7, with 66.05 percent approving the measure.
If late absentee ballots steer the Mill Creek measure under 60 percent, the impact on the city budget could be significant. The levy brings in approximately $700,000 to help fund the service, which the city pays for on a contract basis with Fire District 7.
The two measures are renewals of an existing tax levy that charges property owners a rate of 25 cents per $1,000 of assessed value, meaning the owner of a home valued at $300,000 pays $75 per year for the service.
The emergency medical services levy is good for six years, with the new renewal taking effect Jan. 1, 2005 in both the city of Mill Creek and unincorporated Snohomish County served by District 7.
