MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — Plans for the proposed $37.5 million Civic Campus project made another step forward at City Council’s June 7 meeting. Council, speaking as one voice, passed a position statement in support of the bond measure following a public hearing.

While there were residents in the gallery, no one spoke either for or against the bond proposal moving forward.

At the council’s May 17 meeting an ordinance was adopted to place the proposed Civic Campus bond measure on the Nov. 2 general election ballot for voter consideration.

In accordance with state law, council was then required to hold a public hearing before adopting an official position. The hearing was intended to give the public an opportunity to state their position prior to a council resolution.

The Civic Campus bond would finance the construction of a new civic campus. General obligation bonds, maturing within 30 years or less, would be used. The measure would authorize an annual levy of excess property taxes to pay and retire the bonds.
