Lynnwood forms visioning task force
Mayor Don Gough has announced the formation of the Lynnwood Citizens Visioning Task Force.
It’s phase three of the city’s Moving Forward community visioning process.
Task force members meet for the first time Friday, Jan. 16, then as needed.
The task force is made up of more than 25 residents who participated in the visioning process.
Over the summer and fall of 2008, these residents created and refined the framework of the proposed vision-statement. The group will be overseen by the Office of Neighborhoods and Community Affairs.
Lynnwood residents have, through the visioning process, recommended — and the City Council accepted as a “working draft — an overarching vision for our city’s future.
“The task force will make recommendations on how the vision is communicated, implemented, and utilized through our city of Lynnwood,” said Emily Yim, director of the office of neighborhoods and community affairs, in a prepared statement.
“In addition, the task force will identify the topics and issues it deems appropriate to assist with the establishment and implementation of our city-wide vision”.
The task force will make interim and final reports to Gough. The interim report is due next summer, with recommendations for consideration in the mid-biennial budget process. The final report is due by June 30, 2010 with recommendations for consideration in the 2010-11 biennial budget process and to the council for future actions.
MLT scholarship fund gets boost
The Terrace-Brier Lions Club collected $172.37 in donations for the Michelle Ringler Recreation Scholarship Fund at the Mountlake Terrace Tree Lighting Ceremony Dec. 6.
In 2008, the scholarship fund helped 78 children participate in dance classes, swimming lessons, summer camps and other special programs.
Michelle worked at the Recreation Pavilion for 16 years before her death in 2008 after a prolonged illness.
She began as a recreation leader working with special needs children and later worked at the service counter ensuring that customers felt welcome as they arrived at the Pavilion.
The Fund, supported by private donations, has helped more than 400 children register for recreation programs since 2002.
More information on the Michelle Ringler Recreation Scholarship Fund is available at www.cityofmlt.com, or call Julie Codd at 425-640-3105.
County program seeks volunteers
Vulnerable adults living in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and adult family homes throughout Snohomish County are in need of community help.
The Snohomish County Long Term Care Ombudsman Program will offer a four-day training session on Feb. 17, 18, 24 and 25 for new volunteer ombudsmen.
Once certified, volunteers are asked to spend an average of four hours a week on their ombudsman duties. Expenses such as mileage are reimbursable.
The program is part of a statewide program that protects residents and works with residents and their families to achieve high-quality and compassionate care. Volunteers come from a wide variety of backgrounds and hours are flexible.
