Sara Mosiman kicked off what’s shaping up to be a busy summer at last weekend’s all-state girls basketball showcase in Spokane.
The King’s junior-to-be scored a team-high 16 points for the West squad in a losing effort in the Class 1A contest June 19 at Mead High School.
Behind 17 points and six rebounds from Freeman forward Jessie DePell, the East overcame a slow start and prevailed 86-69.
“We were ahead most of the game. At the end, they pulled it out,” said Mosiman, who guided King’s to a fourth-place finish at this year’s state tournament.
At 5-foot-10, Mosiman was one of the tallest players on the West’s guard-heavy roster. She was used almost exclusively in the post.
“Most of my points came off rebounds or in transition,” said Mosiman, who plays point guard for King’s. “We wanted to run and gun. They were a lot taller than us and we figured we could tire them out.”
Mosiman is currently playing basketball for King’s in the Edmonds District Summer League and for The Clutch, a travel team that has upcoming tournaments in Hawaii and Oregon.
Her summer plans also include volleyball workouts and a series of junior track meets. Mosiman took first in the javelin at last month’s 1A state track championships.
