MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — The City Council reconsidered its vote to go out to bid for a new fire station Dec. 6.
The vote was 6-1 to go out to bid, with Angela Amundson dissenting.
According to interim City Manger Scott Hugill, city officials will take the next three weeks to get the documents ready to go out to bid and then the bid process will take about three weeks. Bids would then be received and presented to the City Council in early February.
The City Council, short one member, voted 3-3 Nov. 1 to not go out to bid for the new fire station construction. This vote stalled the process of the city getting a new fire station. At that time the three who voted against going out for bid were Amundson, Douglas Wittinger and John Zambrano.
The vote was reconsidered because Councilwoman Michelle Robles wasn’t available for the voting meeting because of the birth of grandchild.
One reason why these members stated they opposed the vote was because the proposed costs were higher than they liked.
Staff and proponents to the fire station had said a vote to go out to bid doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll be changing their price plans on the new fire stations—it just is moving the process forward.
