Mountlake Terrace can start making postseason plans.

The Hawks (13-3 league) clinched the Western Conference South Division title April 29 by defeating visiting Shorecrest 6-2 thanks to a workhorse performance from starting pitcher Kyle Barisic and a perfect night at the plate from senior Garrett Totten.

The Hawks will face the Wesco North’s No. 4 seed, Stanwood, in the first round of the 4A District 1 playoffs on Saturday.

“I’m proud of my kids for winning in a tough league,” Mountlake Terrace coach Andrew Watters said.

Barisic pitched a complete game, throwing seven strikeouts and surrendering five hits.

“He was fantastic today,” Watters said. “Our pitching has been good all year … He threw strikes, he was in control of the game.”

Barisic was helped by a Mountalke Terrace defense that didn’t surrender an error and an offense that scored four runs in the first two innings.

Totten, who has signed to play for Texas Tech next year, batted 3-for-3 for the Hawks with a double, two RBI and two runs scored. Ryan Sells added a double and an RBI and Matt Shafer batted 2-for-3.

“We had success early in the game,” Watters said. “Our kids were prepared in their approach, they made (Shorecrest’s pitcher) throw a lot of pitches.”

Shorecrest, 4-12 in league, received offense from Willie Davies, who hit a solo home run in the fourth inning and senior Chad Morrison, who finished 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored.
