From 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, neighborhoods throughout Edmonds are being invited to join forces in a large way with thousands of communities nationwide for the 20th Annual National Night Out (NNO) anti-crime and drug prevention event.

The National Association of Town Watch, which supports this event in more than 9,800 communities in all 50 states, Canadian cities, and military bases around the world, awarded last year’s Edmonds National Night Out 2002 as “Rookies of the Year,” recognizing outstanding participation in America’s Night Out Against Crime.

This year’s enormous family event is being sponsored locally by Campbell-Nelson Volkswagen-Nissan, Petosa’s Family Grocer, Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of Everett, Seattle’s Best Coffee, Edmonds Senior Kiwanis, Edmonds VFW, the Edmonds Police Department and others from our community.

Turn on your porch lights, lock your doors, and join us to “Give Crime A Going Away Party” at the Frances Anderson Center Playfield, 700 Main Street.

Edmonds Mayor Gary Haakenson and the U.S. Drill Team Color Guard will officially kick off all the activities at 6 p.m..

Edmonds’ sixth Annual Celebration of National Night Out will include an evening of family fun and activities, including Police Chief David Stern and assistant chiefs barbecuing hotdogs for citizens.

This years’ NNO event is going to be bigger and better than ever! With many thanks to our generous sponsors, here is some of the terrific amusement planned: inflatable carousel bouncer; giant kiddie obstacle course; face painting; professional clown; live music by The Trolley Days Band; Support 7; puppet show; Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound and 7-Eleven; McGruff the Crime Dog; police cars; fire trucks; the Crime Beetle Bug; police motorcycle and bike units; dive team and animal control; emergency services; tae kwon do demonstrations; safety and security professionals; fantastic drawings for free gifts, and lots of food and drinks for everyone.

It’s a great opportunity to strengthen neighborhood spirit, develop partnerships with their city’s police and fire safety members, and send a message to criminals that we’re organized, we care about Edmonds, and we’re fighting crime to keep this a great place to live and work.

Join us – you won’t want to miss it this year!
