‘New Age’ pianist entertains, educates

Grammy nominated pianist David Lanz brings a weekend of entertainment and music education to the Puget Sound area as he performs in concert Saturday May 6 at the Shoreline Community College Theatre and presents a student-oriented piano workshop at Washburn Piano in Bellevue Sunday, May 7.

Seattle native Lanz will be back in his hometown in support of his latest release, “Spirit Romance” on the Narada label. Lanz’s signature romantic melodies are backed by renowned Native American flutist Gary Stroutsos on the Chinese Xiao flute, as well as Keith Lowe, Swil Kanim and Michael Lanz.

A pioneer of the new age musical movement since the early 1980’s, Lanz’s career includes more than 20 recordings, numerous compilations, a platinum recording of “East of the Moon” and a Grammy Award nomination to his credit.

Lanz has recently appeared on the popular web radio program “Whisperings Radio” hosted by pianist David Nevue, and will be featured on an upcoming DVD project with Jan Nickman of Third Planet Entertainment. The high definition DVD will combine a filmed musical documentary called “Living Temples,” highlighting the natural beauty of the Southwest.

Tickets for the Shoreline concert are $20 by calling East West Bookshop at 206-523-3726, 800-587-6002 or visiting East West Bookshop, located at 6500 Roosevelt Way NE in Seattle. The concert begins at 7 p.m. and the theater is located in Building 1600 at 16101 Greenwood Avenue N. in Shoreline. Tickets are $25 on the day of the event through East West Bookshop or at the door.

Ticket for the Sunday workshop are $10 for students 18 years and under and $15 for adults, at the door. Washburn Piano is located at 10635 NE 8th Street in Bellevue. David will discuss his creative process, perform his best known as well as his latest work, answer questions and dialog with the audience from 4 to 6 p.m.
