Snohomish County Christian School’s volleyball team has finally found a head coach.

The Lions had been without a coach for the first two weeks of practice before Stacie Mahler was hired last week.

This is Mahler’s first head coaching position. She has an extensive playing background.

Mahler only had conducted a couple of practices but already has seen enough of her team to know that the Lions have plenty of potential.

“It’s a great team. We’re a fairly young team,” Mahler said.

SCCS is led by senior captain Rylee Wallace, an outside hitter.

“She’s a great hitter,” Mahler said. “She’s a pretty good all-around player.”

Senior Emily Oakland is another of the team’s strong hitters and leaders.

“They are providing great leadership on the team,” Mahler said.

Freshman Megan Crosby likely will be the Lions’ setter.

Mahler admits she’s is playing catch up as a result of coming in so late.

“I’m still evaluating … who might go where,” Mahler said.

SCCS doesn’t have many tall players but the players they do have possess a lot of heart.

“We have a lot of tenacity,” Mahler said. “I see this as a growing year.”
