Brier’s city council approved a conditional use permit, at the Tuesday Sept. 22 meeting, allowing for a fire station to be located in the 21200 block of Poplar Way.
Fire District 1 will build the new neighborhood fire station in Brier based on evaluation of call load and response times with computer modeling. It will replace station #18, located at 3900 228th St. SW in Mountlake Terrace.
“It’s been a long time coming since Fire District 1 came to discuss fire house relocation,” Mayor Bob Colinas said about the five year process. “It was a big effort to develop a plan to locate the fire station in strategic areas to serve the public. I’m excited that the station will be put in the community of Brier.”
A house located on the property has been demolished. A garage remains on the site. The plot is currently fenced.
The conditional use permit was required as the plot is zoned residential. Fire station use is allowed with the city code using a conditional use permit.
Fire District 1 has put the construction project up for bid and is now finalizing that process. Ground breaking was scheduled for earlier this month, with completion of the project projected for fall of 2010.
