The Teen section at the Edmonds Library is home to three colorful new paintings designed and painted by Alicia Hendrix and Christina Olson. The students, who are juniors at Edmonds-Woodway High School, created the artwork under the direction of art instructor Al Zugel.

In response to comments in a suggestion box, Tom Reynolds, adult/teen librarian, Evie Wilson-Lingbloom, library manager, and Judy Sasges, SnoIsle Libraries south region manager, initiated improvements in 2004 to the Teen area including new periodical shelving, brighter paint on the walls, two café tables and laptop computers.

To finish the 2004-2005 improvements, they began talking to Zugel about creating new artwork. The original artwork in that area was created in 1999 by students at Edmonds-Woodway High School under direction from Zugel, with assistance from the Edmonds Arts Commission. Zugel worked with two student artists, Hendrix and Olson, who designed and painted three new pieces depicting teen activities.

The new contemporary, colorful work was installed on Nov. 20. The Friends of the Edmonds Library (FEL) provided funds for the materials used in the artwork.
