Shoreline Community College’s Ebonee Newson tops this year’s crop of NWAACC all-star basketball selections.
The 5-foot-11 freshman forward was named the Northern Region’s Most Valuable Player for the 2003-04 season.
Newson led the conference in scoring (24.1 points per game) and rebounds (12.8) and helped the Dolphins earn their first trip to the NWAACC championships in school history.
The Rainier Beach High School graduate is Shoreline’s first female basketball player to receive MVP honors.
Sophomore Amanda Merkley was a second-team pick. The 5-10 forward averaged 14 points and eight rebounds a game and shot 33 percent from 3-point range for the Dolphins.
On the men’s side, sophomore swingman Bobby Johnson was a first-team selection. Jones ranked fifth in the conference in scoring (21.2) and shot 61 percent from the field.
Shoreline’s Mandell Jones earned second-team honors. The sophomore shooting guard averaged 17.1 points per game.Northern Division women’s basketball
