The Snohomish County Vikings and the Seattle Stallions came ready to play Saturday’s Northwest Football League game.
But the contest was missing one important element – officials.
Because no officials showed up, the game was not played and refunds were issued to fans in attendance. It was not known as of Tuesday morning whether the game would be made up or cancelled. The playoff seedings for the North Division already have been set.
“With all due respect to the League, I think this incident was (unacceptable) and at this time inexcusable. I’m sure there is a reasonable explanation for this, but I haven’t heard one yet,” Stallions coach Merle Davis said in a statement on the team’s Web site. “The players are the reason this League exists and I think the NWFL should respond appropriately.”
Snohomish County takes on the undefeated Puget Sound Titans at 6 p.m, Saturday, Aug. 16 at Edmonds Stadium. Both Puget Sound and Seattle already have clinched playoff berths.
