The city of Mill Creek is putting on a planting event for North Creek and is seeking volunteers to help out.

The planting event is part of Mill Creek’s North Creek Restoration and Habitat Enhancement project and the first of its kind in Mill Creek. It is designed to provide shade and a buffer for North Creek, which is home to chinook, coho and sockeye salmon and coastal cutthroat trout.

Planting takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, along North Creek behind Mill Creek City Hall, 15728 Main St. The event will take place regardless of weather.

Volunteers are asked to bring a shovel, gloves, boots, appropriate clothing and leave pets at home. Coffee, pastries and water will be provided.

Funding for the planting comes from a Coastal Protection Fund grant through the Washington State Department of Ecology; and a Community Salmon Fund grant through the National Fish &Wildlife Foundation and King County.
