Mill Creek celebrates the 20th anniversary of its popular Run of the Mill race from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 9 with an expansion of the festivities, as well as a brand new name for the after race festival — “Meet Me In Mill Creek.”

Still the cornerstone of the day’s events, The South Snohomish County Chamber’s Run of the Mill has a new look with a reconfigured four-mile course through Mill Creek. Runners and walkers from around the Northwest will now converge at the event’s new starting line at The West Coast Family Aquatic Center. A little over an hour later, entrants will celebrate the completion of the event at the race awards ceremony in the Mill Creek Bank of America parking lot, now the new centralized location for the “Meet Me In Mill Creek” festival.

Now in its fifth year, the Mill Creek Business Association sponsored event will close off a portion of Mill Creek Boulevard and 161st St. SW. This new street fair format will offer two entertainment stages, arts and crafts booths, food vendors, and children’s activity area.

The performing arts stage, located on 161st St. SE across from Bank of America, will features local and regional talent including dance students from Mill Creek’s Applause Studio, children’s performer Tim Noah, Dudes and Dolls Square Dancing Club and the Fidgety Feet Jazz band. On the music stage, located on Mill Creek Boulevard behind Albertsons, performers include The Rhythm Riders, Westward Expansion, Salsaribra and Mill Creek musician Kellee Bradley, headlining in conjunction with the concert in the parks series.

The Kid’s Corner, situated at the corner of Mill Creek Blvd. and 161st SE, is set to include children’s crafts, face painting, balloon animals, inflatable play equipment, storytimes, magic performances and a paper plane contest.

Firefighters and emergency personnel from Fire District 7 return again with a fire engine and aid car display for public viewing, along with the department’s safety house to teach children fire safety and how to escape a home fire. Sparky the Fire Dog is also scheduled to make an appearance.

Non-profit organizations will be on hand with displays in the Mill Creek Rotary Club tent. In addition to the local artisans and crafters booths, the Snohomish Artist Guild tent will feature a special fine arts exhibit.
