New York City dance company danielandsomesuperfriends (dass) joins forces with Olympic Ballet Theatre (OBT) for the May 21 world premiere performance of “Religilistic” at The Edmonds Center for the Arts.
Choreographer Daniel Wilkins, artistic director of dass and associate artistic director of OBT, explores cultures and divine worship from around the world using his own unique performance style, All-Terrain Dance, to produce a cutting edge contemporary work.
Wilkins is collaborating with world famous fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg who will be creating the costumes for the work as well as hosting the NYC premiere, June 22-26, in her own space, Diane von Furstenberg — The Theater. New York City visual artist Lyle Starr has created two paintings to set the stage for “Religilistic.” Lighting designer, Jeff Sugg, an innovator in his field and former master electrician of The Wooster Group, N.Y., will utilize lighting with a dropped ceiling along with holographic figures and shadows to depict the mood of “Religilistic.”
The eight member company dancers are trained in ballet, modern, African, and yoga and have performed with The Bolshoi Ballet, Donald Byrd, Suzanne Farrell, Complexions and Alonzo King among others. They will be joined on stage by Olympic Ballet Theatre’s pre-professional company.
This new work presented by Olympic Ballet Theatre will premiere at 8 p.m. Friday, May 21 at The Edmonds Center for the Arts, located at 410 4th Ave. in Edmonds and 8 p.m. Saturday, May 22 at The Bagley Wright Theatre at the Seattle Center. Tickets are $20 general and $17 students and seniors, available through Olympic Ballet Theatre at 425-774-7570 and at Ticketmaster outlets or by phone 206-292-ARTS.
