‘Oliver!’ coming to MLT

Students from Madrona K-8 School will perform “Oliver!” as part of the Madrona Children’s Theatre program March 25-28.

Two casts comprised of a total of 78 students will perform the Charles Dickens classic. All who auditioned get to take part, including six students who are part of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) program and four sets of identical twins.

Show times are at 7 p.m. March 25 (ASL interpreted), 7 p.m. March 26, 2 p.m. (ASL interpreted) and 7 p.m. March 27 and 12:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. March 28. All shows will be at Mountlake Terrace High School, 21801 44th Ave. W, Mountlake Terrace.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students. Call Deborah Hargrave at 425-774-8639. Attendees also are encouraged to bring items to donate to the Edmonds Food Bank.

Archbishop Murphy HS names principal

Fran Ennis will be Archbishop Murphy High School’s permanent principal after serving as interim principal since October.

Ennis previously served on the high school Board of Trustees from January 2008 to September 2009. She has spent more than 16 years in education, including a post as assistant principal at Lake Stevens High School.

Edmonds supe to meet with parents

Edmonds schools Superintendent Nick Brossoit will meet with interested parents to discuss the work of the district and schools and take questions from those in attendance.

• 7 p.m. March 17 in the Lynnwood High School library, 18218 North Road, Bothell.

PC students display international knowledge

Students in Penny Creek Elementary School’s highly capable classrooms will showcase what they’ve learned about selected “Countries of Consequence” at 6:30 p.m. March 11 during Family Night at the school, 4117 132nd St. SE, Everett.

Six weeks ago, the students in second through fifth grades each selected a country to study, including its history, culture, economy, demographics and current world impact. Their presentations will include an oral report as well as a tri-fold display with maps, brochures and photographs.

Murphy to present musical

Archbishop Murphy High School plans to present several performances of its spring musical, “Once Upon a Mattress.”

Show times and dates are 7:30 p.m. March 12; 7 p.m. March 13; 2 p.m. March 14; 7:30 p.m. March 19 and 2 p.m. March 20.

All shows are at the PUD Auditorium 2320 California St., Everett.

Ticket prices are $13 for adults and $11 for seniors 62 and older, students and children under 10.

Students earn all-state jazz honors

Twenty-five students from around the Edmonds School District auditioned for and were selected to participate in this year’s Washington Music Education Association’s All-State Honor Groups and participated in the WMEA All-State Festival during February.

EWHS Jazz Band selected for Essentially Ellington

Edmonds-Woodway High School was one of 15 schools nationwide selected to participate in the prestigious Essentially Ellington jazz competition and festival in New York City from May 8-10.

The three top-placing bands at the competition will perform during Jazz at Lincoln Center with artistic director Wynton Marsalis.

MTHS and EWHS play the Lionel Hampton jazz fest

More than 170 high school and middle school instrumental groups as well as soloists participated in the 2010 Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival in Moscow, Idaho, Feb. 24-27.

Mountlake Terrace High’s Jazz Ensemble I was one of 12 groups to receive awards and invited to perform during the Young Artists Concert.

Edmonds-Woodway High School Combo also received special commendations.

In addition to the group awards, Mountlake Terrace’s Jack Walters, tenor saxophone, received an individual honor.
