O’Malley to fight Saturday

Edmonds boxer Martin O’Malley will end a six-month layoff tomorrow against up-and-coming lightweight Juan Diaz at the Pechenga Resort and Casino in Temecula, Calif.

The 10-round contest will be the second of two bouts aired live locally on KING-5 beginning at 1:30 p.m.

In his last outing, O’Malley (21-2-1, 14 knockouts) fought Leonardo Rojas to a majority draw. Diaz (23-0, 11 knockouts) is coming off a sixth-round technical knockout of Joel Perez Nov. 22.

O’Malley, 28, won his first 17 pro fights and has stopped 11 opponents within the first three rounds. Diaz, 20, has won four of his last six fights by knockout to climb to fourth in the most recent World Boxing Council rankings.
