LYNNWOOD — With the start of school last Tuesday also comes more police patrols and an added bonus from the Lynnwood public works department.

Lynnwood public works department have added bright orange flags to the speed limit signs, said Bill Vlcek, director of public works so to draw attention to the signs.

“During the summertime, the signs just start to blend into the background and we want them to stick out now that school has started,” Vlcek said.

So Lynnwood street utility worker Kevin Herrick single-handedly added bright orange flags to 50 school signs in Lynnwood, said the street foreman, Ron Hammons.

Along with the flags, the police department will have extra patrols in school zones, especially for the first couple of weeks of school, said Trudy Dana, spokesperson for the police department.

Dana added that fines in a school zone are doubled.
