Diners are excused if they’re a little confused. Hey! Didn’t that restaurant used to be on the other side of the street?

Patty’s Eggnest, an iconic local restaurant chain, has moved its Arlington restaurant into a new building across the street. A grand opening was held on Aug. 8.

Owned by Thomas and Mable Chin, the restaurant now operates in what used to be another Arlington landmark, O’Brien’s Turkey House.

Four generations of the O’Brien family worked at the old restaurant on State Route 530 that was noted for offering a Thanksgiving-style turkey dinner and homemade pies every day. Unfortunately, a combination of snowstorms, two bad floods and the down economy forced owner Kerry O’Brien to shut down the family business for the last time in May.

At the time of the Turkey House’s demise, the Chin’s restaurant was set up across the street in the unwieldy but very visible Weller’s Restaurant building, another Arlington notable that closed several years ago until Patty’s Eggnest moved in.

The Chins purchased the Turkey House property and gave it a new makeover. They also added the popular O’Brien-style turkey dinner to the already extensive Patty’s Eggnest menu and tacked something extra onto the restaurant’s name to become Patty’s Eggnest and Turkey House.

The restaurant’s vast menu of big breakfasts and comfort food are a good fit for the former regulars of O’Briens who still show up at the old familiar location. They appreciate the Chin family’s willingness to take on some of the old restaurant’s more popular dishes.

As for the Chin family themselves, they are no strangers to the restaurant scene. Their paternal great-grandfather, Charlie King, was a chef back in the days of the pioneers. His descendants carried on the restaurant tradition opening many restaurants in this area.

The Chins purchased the award-winning Patty’s Eggnest chain from its originators Theo and Patty Papadopoulos and now have several locations in Snohomish and King Counties. Patty’s Eggnest and Turkey House is located at 2310 State Route 530 in Arlington.
