A 17-year-old boy was struck by a car Monday, Sept. 27, after he ran in front of traffic on the 18500 block of Linden Avenue. He suffered non-fatal injuries and was taken to Harborview Medical Center.
The accident occurred at 1:36 p.m. after an eastbound car, occupied by teenagers, stopped at a red light at Linden Avenue, according to Jim Leach, detective in the King County investigative office.
While the car was stopped, the teenagers exited the vehicle and ran circles around the car. All but one were able to get back in the car before the light turned green and the driver pulled away.
The teenager who was left behind then ran into traffic and got hit by another car.
“He ran into the outside east-bound lane in front of a car,” Leach said. ” He ran into the car, it’s not the driver’s fault.”
The teenager did not appear to be injured, said police chief Tony Burtt, but was taken to Harborview Medical Center where it was determined he did not sustain any injuries.
The teenager has been released from the hospital, said Leach. This is the first accident of this nature he has investigated, he said.
Since the accident was not caused by the driver who struck the teenager, he was not taken to the police station. The case is still under investigation.
