Chamber 2009 award honorees announced

The Everett Area Chamber of Commerce annual Awards of Excellence Honorees have been announced. The honorees include those whose efforts, leadership and contributions have made a positive impact on the Everett business environment, the Everett community and the Chamber.

The awards include the Henry M. Jackson Citizen of the Year to Linda Johannes of the Everett Mall, Corporate Executive of the Year to Rock Peterson of Brien Ford-Mitsubishi, Small Business Executive of the Year to Dale Newman of Industrial Massage and the Service to Business Award to Arlan Hatloe of the Everett City Council. The Business Innovation Award goes to Community Transit/Everett Transit SWIFT Bus Rapid Transit program, Employer of the Year to Providence Regional Medical Center of Everett, Employee of the Year to Keith Nowicki of the U.S. Army Recruiting Station, the Dick Stephens Community Caring Award to Clay Wertheimer of Everett Bone &Joint, the Young Professional of the Year to Patrick Sievers of Everett Downtown Storage, Friend of the Chamber to Ted Wenta of Leadership Snohomish County, the President’s Award to John Carsten of Carsten Cleaning, the Chairman’s Award to Mike Holcomb of Snohomish County PUD and Ambassador of the Year is Jeff Jermulowske of Windermere Real Estate.

The 2009 Annual awards dinner is Dec. 9. at the Edward D. Hansen Conference Center at the Comcast Arena.

United Way announces new board members

United Way of Snohomish County has announced the election of 11 new members to the Board of Directors.

The Board Chair for the 2009-10 term is Kim Pastega, director of manufacturing for the Boeing 777 program in Everett. Other new United Way board members include David Beyer, Ph.D., president of Everett Community College; Gary Cohn, Ph.D., superintendent of Everett School District and Joyce Eleanor, CEO of Community Transit.Other new board members include Cindy Melland, executive vice-president of Sales and Marketing for Frontier Bank; Mike Miller, vice-president of manufacturing for Campbell’s StockPot; Preston Simmons, COO of Providence Regional Medical Center Stephanie Walker, vice-president of product and sales operations for Premera Blue Cross; Wally Webster, senior vice-president (retired) of Bank of America; Kevin Weed, president and CEO of Perteet, Inc.; Rich White, local government relations manager for The Boeing Company and Matthew Yerbic, president of Aviation Technical Services, Inc. (Taurus Group)

Steve Piccini joins D.A. Davidson &Co.

D.A. Davidson &Co. recently announced that Steve Piccini, CFA, has joined their new Burlington office as Associate Vice President and Financial Consultant. D.A. Davidson &Co. is the largest full-service investment firm based in the Northwest.

Edmonds Martial Artist Honored by Mayors

Dr. Jonathan Bannister was recently honored on the 30-year anniversary of his practicing and promoting Japanese martial and cultural arts in the Northwest. Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels proclaimed October 18, 2009 as “Dr. Jonathan Bannister Day” and Shoreline Mayor Cindy Ryu joined him in commending the local martial arts teacher. On Oct. 18,The Pacific Northwest Budo Association also presented the awards to Bannister. Overall, he has taught 30 years and holds nine black belts.

Local heroes award for crime victim advocate

Executive Director of Families and Friends of Missing Persons and Violent Crime Victims, Jenny Wieland-Ward was honored with a Bank of America Local Heroes award for being an advocate for crime victims throughout Washington State. Bank of America recognizes local heroes who champion causes vital to their communities. Heroes have to have made a significant impact on individuals, families, or communities.

Edmonds Community College Foundation names distinguished alumni

Alan Howard of Everett, a senior engineer at Huntron, Inc. in Mill Creek, and Jeff Smoot of Seattle, an attorney at Lasher Holzapfel Sperry &Ebberson law firm in Seattle, are the recipients of Edmonds Community College’s 2009 Distinguished Alumni Awards that recognize educational accomplishment and excellence in service to the community.

They will be honored Dec. 3 at a champagne reception followed by an awards ceremony in the theater lobby, Mukilteo Hall, Edmonds Community College.

Coast|Sperry Van Ness recently congratulated Brett Carlton, senior vice president, and Josh Heyum, senior advisor, for coordinating the sale of the Claremont Medical Building in Everett to Sea Mar Community Health Center. The firm also congratulatd its Jansen Multifamily Team for recently arranging the sale of Peace Arch Secure Storage in Custer, WA to an out-of-state buyer. Salvisberg earns Redken certification

Andrea Salvisberg with BreCyn Salon in Everett has earned certification in advanced coloring with Redken International. She and co-worker Michelle Morgan attended a three-day seminar in late November at the Redken Institute in New York City.

Heather Carter named Group Sales Manager at Snohomish County Tourism Bureau

Heather Carter has joined the Snohomish County Tourism Bureau as Group Sales Manager, responsible for promoting Snohomish County’s convention facilities to meeting and event planners. Carter previously worked for Macy’s NW as Bridal Event and Marketing Manager and Wizards of the Coast as an Event Marketing Specialist. She also owned Puget Sound Wedding Design, a wedding and event consulting business.
