AEROSPACE

Everett Community College aerospace engineering student Rachael Humberg has been selected by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration for a 15-week internship at the NASA Dryden Flight Research Center in California. The internship is part of NASA’s Undergraduate Student Research Program. This is the first year that the Dryden Flight Center has offered an internship, and Humberg was one of two student interns chosen for spring. Humberg plans to transfer to the University of Washington to earn her bachelor’s degree after graduating from EvCC.

CONSTRUCTION

Dano Jukanovich has recently been named president and chief executive of LIFEstyle Homes &Construction Inc., a family-owned, Marysville-based property development and construction company. In addition to serving as the chief operating officer for the past three years for LIFEstyle Homes &Construction, Jukanovich’s business experience includes working in strategic business advisory capacities to clients ranging from chief executives of technology and manufacturing startups throughout the United States to the chief financial officer of AT&T Wireless. He also has real estate experience, having been a licensed Realtor in Colorado, plus 10 years of professional real estate investing in Washington.

EDUCATION

Kari Viall , who recently earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Columbia College — Everett/ Marysville campus, has been selected as Columbia College’s newest academic adviser/administrative assistant. Viall will be assisting students at both college offices — the office onboard Naval Station Everett and at the college office at the Navy Support Complex in Marysville.

ENGINEERING &ENVIRONMENTAL

Lois Ruskell , information and education coordinator with the Snohomish Conservation District, has been selected to participate in an 18-month agriculture and forestry leadership development program. Ruskell will attend 14 seminars with the Washington Agriculture and Forestry Leadership Program.

Chad McMullen, Kelley Wrigg, Cody Nelson, Anthony Farinacci and Kristi Schultz have joined the Edmonds office of Landau Associates. McMullen is the geotechnical project engineer; Wrigg is an associate engineer; Nelson is a computer-aided drafting and design operator; Farinacci is a staff hydrogeologist; and Schultz is a project coordinator.

WHPacific, Inc., an engineering, planning and surveying firm operating in eight states, recently announced the appointment of national business line managers to lead key areas of business. In the Northwest region, three of the new national business line managers are: Brad Bastin , transportation; Tom Jones , land development; and Jon Warren , survey. Bastin formerly was the transportation business line manager for Northwest operations. He has nearly 30 years of civil/transportation experience and has been with the company since 1989. Jones formerly was the land development business line manager for Northwest operations. He has more than 30 years of experience and has been with the company since 1984. Warren formerly was the survey business line manager for Northwest operations. He has 24 years of professional survey experience, including 12 years in private practice and 12 years as the Snohomish County surveyor. He has been with the company since 2006.

FINANCIAL

Isaac Maldonado , loan officer, was promoted to vice president of North County Bank. Maldonado has been with North County Bank for about five years. He specializes in commercial, real estate and construction lending. A lifelong resident of Snohomish County, Maldonado is a graduate of both Stanwood High School and Western Washington University.

Michael Troy has been named staffing director of the newly opened Equis Financial Staffing WA office in Bothell. Troy has an extensive staffing background and specializes in the placement of finance and accounting professionals. For more information, call 425-361-3558.

Samira Badsha has been promoted to vice president at Cascade Bank. She is the manager of the Everett-based bank’s Issaquah branch and has more than 17 years of banking experience.

Kyle Kurisu has joined Mountain Pacific Bank as a vice president and branch manager for the bank’s Everett location at 38th Street and Broadway. Kurisu has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and 17 years of experience at financial institutions. Also, Michael Hwang has joined Mountain Pacific Bank to manage its new Lynnwood branch. Hwang is a vice president and will be manager of the branch, which is set to open in early 2008 at 196th Street SW and Highway 99. A graduate of the University of Missouri who most recently worked as a financial services manager for First Horizon Bank, Hwang has expertise in the Korean market.

John Stewart , the commercial banking team leader in Skagit County, has been promoted to the new position of chief deposit officer for Horizon Bank. Stewart’s primary responsibility will be to drive the overall deposit growth of Horizon Bank. He also will oversee retail and consumer banking, as well as play a critical role in building business development across multiple lines of business.

Lorry Darling has been promoted to loan officer at the Monroe office of Frontier Bank. Dolly Coss has been promoted to assistant vice president and information security manager at the bank. Linda Kastner , also from the security department, was named assistant vice president and Bank Secrecy Act manager. Marilee Paddock was named assistant vice president and fraud risk manager, and Rozanne Reedy was named assistant vice president and physical security manager. Also, John Weber has been promoted to loan officer. He recently completed the bank’s management training program and is working at its Edmonds Office. Weber started his banking career four years ago when he joined Frontier Bank after graduating from St. Andrews University in Scotland.

Mary Knox and Kim Sjostrom of Moss Adams LLP have been certified by the Institute of Certified Construction Industry Financial Professionals Inc. as a Construction Industry Financial Professional. The ICCIFP is a nonprofit corporation established to promote the highest standards of construction financial management through the credentialing of construction financial professionals.

GOVERNMENT

Craig Ladiser , director of Snohomish County Planning and Development Services, recently was named Public Employee of the Year by the Puget Sound Chapter of the American Planning Association and the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties. One of two award recipients, Ladiser was chosen for his leadership and ability to build reasonable compromise on the county’s residential code update, buildable lands report and the county’s recently adopted critical areas update.

Larry Calter has been appointed the new director of the Department of Information Services for Snohomish County. Calter previously worked for King County Metro Transit where he was the IT manager. While at Metro, Calter provided strategic leadership to all aspects of information systems and managed $200 million in capital programs.

Everett City Councilmember Arlan Hatloe recently became one of the nation’s first 24 elected officials to be recognized by the National League of Cities for achieving the Distinctive Diamond Level in its Certificate of Achievement in Leadership program. Hatloe is the only Everett city council member to receive the prestigious Diamond Certificate. Council members Mark Olson and Ron Gipson hold the Platinum Leadership Training Certificate and are working toward the Diamond level. Hatloe was elected to the Everett City Council in 2001. Hatloe and the other honorees earned the Diamond Certificate by mentoring other aspiring leaders and earning at least 80 credits in all five of the core competency areas of municipal leadership, which include cornerstone, catalyst, collaborator, communicator and competent practitioner.

Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon recently announced that several top advisers will remain in key positions in his administration as he begins his second term, including Deputy Executive Mark Soine, who will continue to serve in his capacity, ensuring the executive’s vision and goals for the county are implemented efficiently with community and county partners. Executive Directors Peter Camp and Deanna Dawson will each continue to serve in their current positions. Camp will focus on infrastructure development, planning and transportation issues. Dawson will continue to oversee law and justice issues, and human services with an emphasis on affordable housing. Reardon also announced the appointment of Christopher Schwarzen to serve as executive analyst within the Executive Office. In his new role, Schwarzen will coordinate public information and outreach on matters of public policy. Schwarzen has 12 years of experience as a journalist focusing on federal, state and county government and public policy, including public health and environmental issues. He has spent the past five years as a reporter for The Seattle Times.

Washington state Rep. John McCoy , D-Tulalip, in December was elected by the House majority caucus to chair the House Technology, Energy and Communications Committee during the 2008 legislative session. He had been serving as vice chair of the panel.

HEALTH CARE

Mike McLaury is the new clinic director at Everett Physical Therapy and Sports Performance Center of the Integrated Rehabilitation Group. McLaury, who played football for Western Washington University, has a background in sports medicine, orthopedic and post-operative rehabilitation, and is certified as a strength and conditioning specialist.

Mark Boede of Murphy’s Corner Physical Therapy in Mill Creek has become certified in the ASTYM System, joining other Integrated Rehabilitation Group members Dawn Bostic of Arlington Physical Therapy and Tony Dao of Edmonds Hand Therapy in offering the advanced therapy technique.

Ron Lind of Lind’s Pharmacy in Langley was honored by the Washington State Pharmacy Association recently for his community service. The Bowl of Hygeia award goes to only one member in each state. Hatam Shafeen of Shiraz Pharmacy in Everett was named the association’s Distinguished Young Pharmacist of the Year. And Michelle Valentine of Valentine Consulting Community Pharmacist in Mukilteo received the Innovative Pharmacy Practice award.

INSURANCE

Allstate Insurance Co. agent Randy Obbink of Monroe recently was recognized by the company for his 20 years of service. As a part of the Allstate Milestone Achievement program, Allstate agents receive a plaque of recognition honoring their contributions and service of five years or more.

Kathy Johnson , a customer service representative with English Insurance Group, recently earned her property and casualty insurance agent’s license. As a licensed agent, she will be offering auto, homeowner, boat, personal umbrellas and other personal insurance products to clients. Also, Kristie English , co-owner of English Insurance Group, earned her property and casualty insurance broker’s license. She will continue working with business owners and their insurance needs, including nonprofit and educational organizations.

MARKETING

Evan Milton of Corporate Impressions of Mill Creek has been elected to serve as president of the Northwest Promotional Marketing Association. In her role as president, Milton will be responsible for overseeing the activities of the board of directors and committee chairs that provide NWPMA members with education, communication and networking opportunities that better position their businesses in the regional marketplace.

NONPROFITS

Hallie Olson is the new executive director of the South Snohomish County Senior Center in Edmonds. Olson has a master’s degree in adult education and a doctorate in education leadership, with a focus on nonprofit leadership in the field of aging.

Jess Jamieson , most recently president and chief executive of Compass Health in Everett, has been named interim executive director of Little Red School House Inc. Jamieson will serve in the interim role while the organization’s board searches for a permanent replacement for longtime director Barbara George , who retired in October. Jamieson has a Ph.D. in organizational psychology from the University of Iowa and holds master’s degrees in clinical social work and health-care administration.

LAW

Laura E. Kruse , a 1993 graduate of Lake Stevens High School, has been named a Rising Star by Washington Law and Politics. To receive the award, attorneys must be younger than age 40 or practicing law for fewer than 10 years. Only 2.5 percent of the lawyers in Washington are given the honor. Kruse is an associate with Betts, Patterson &Mines in Seattle.

PUBLIC SAFETY

Brian Ash and Steve Goforth , members of Everett Firefighters Local 46, recently completed the University of Washington’s paramedic training program at Harborview Medical Center.

REAL ESTATE

Brian Lennon has been promoted to managing director of Colliers International’s Puget Sound Real Estate Management Services Group. Based in Seattle, the REMS group has offices in Bellevue, Mukilteo and Tacoma. Lennon will oversee the delivery of services in these markets, and his role expands to include further business development activities and client relationship management. During a career of more than 25 years, Lennon has worked on both the landlord/owner and tenant/user sides of complex real estate ventures and transactions including assignments throughout the United States and Europe.

Tom Hurdelbrink has been named president and chief executive officer of the Northwest Multiple Listing Service, succeeding Jack Johnson , who is retiring. Hurdelbrink, 52, joined NWMLS midyear as executive vice president and designated successor to Johnson. The Woodinville resident assumes his new position this month. Hurdelbrink, a certified association executive, joins NWMLS from Real Estate Business Services Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of the California Association of REALTORS. His professional background has been concentrated in real estate association management, including positions at the National Association of Realtors, the Lorain County (Ohio) Association of Realtors, the Northern Ohio Regional MLS (where he was chief executive for 11 years) and Realtor.com.
