“The skies they were ashen and sober; The leaves they were crisped and sere; It was night in the lonesome October, Of my most immemorial year.”

The Driftwood Players serve up some Halloween tricks — and treats — in a special PlayCafé seasonal tribute to horror writer Edgar Allan Poe titled “Ode to Poe,” in two performances Oct. 28 and 29 at Mountlake Terrace’s Café on the Terrace.

America’s preeminent author of the horrific, Poe is best known for his macabre short stories, including “The Pit and the Pendulum,” “The Fall of the House of Usher” and “The Tell-Tale Heart.” Selections from his most well-known classics as well as lesser known gems will be read by a cast of actors who promise to deliver Halloween chills to audiences. Audiences may even be surprised to experience a lighter side of Poe, also known for his satirical writing as a literary journalist.

Complimenting the evening’s readings, Café on the Terrace will serve a special four course meal highlighting the cuisine of Boston, Mass., Poe’s birthplace “The Raven’s Menu” features Boston clam chowder and a mixed green salad, with a main course choice of apple stuffed pork loin, chicken with wild mushroom champagne sauce or pumpkin ravioli with cream sauce and toasted pumpkin seeds, topped off with Boston cream pie for dessert.

“Ode to Poe” is presented at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29 &Saturday, Oct. 30 at Café on the Terrace, located at 22826 56th Avenue W. in Mountlake Terrace. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Reservations are required. More information on tickets and show times is available by calling 425-712-9112.
