Plunkett keeps work open, accessible

Michael Plunkett works hard to keep Edmonds government open and accessible to you — the citizens of Edmonds. That’s why I strongly support his re-election.

And that is why Michael Plunkett was recognized by the Southwest Edmonds Neighborhood Association for “exemplifying the highest standards of a city council member by listening, understanding and working with our community to purchase 5.5 acres of the Old Woodway Elementary School for a park. Without your steadfast support of our citizens’ vision, this Edmonds park would not exist.”

He voted to keep city land-use decisions open and transparent at city council meetings. He made council retreats transparent by taping them so citizens have a record of council discussions. As council president, he was authorized to negotiate the senior center’s lease renewal in private; instead, he negotiated publicly at open city council meetings and brought the negotiations to a successful conclusion.

As council president, Michael Plunkett led a large, public visioning process instead of hiring expensive consultants.

And, of course, there would not be a new, popular 5.5-acre park in southwest Edmonds without his efforts. He was in a minority of the council who supported southwest Edmonds citizens to purchase all 11 acres for a park.

He listens to residents’ concerns and works with them to address their issues. Michael Plunkett remembers you. I hope you remember him with your vote.
