Edmonds police investigators have identified two suspects in the May 25 assault with a baseball bat of two people near Firdale Village Shopping Center and Apartments. The incident was drug related, according to police.

A 20-year-old Lynnwood man was arrested in the early morning hours of July 4 on the charge of first-degree robbery. He was booked into Snohomish County Jail. A second suspect, also a 20-year-old Lynnwood man, is in custody in Eastern Washington on an unrelated matter. He also is expected to be charged with first-degree robbery.

Investigators identified the suspects through the use of tips, informants and information obtained from the victims.

The two are suspected of beating an 18-year-old Edmonds man whose cries for help were heard by neighbors and reported to police at about 11:45 p.m. A police K9 unit backtracked the victim’s route to a residence in the 9600 block of 241st Place Southwest. There they found the man’s 20-year-old girlfriend, who also had been assaulted and had just called the police for help.

The two were taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment of what were considered critical injuries and released.

Officers have determined the male victim was assaulted in order to rob him of his marijuana and money. That victim is being charged in Snohomish County Superior Court with possession of a controlled substance.

Investigation into the case is continuing and if it is determined more people were involved in the robbery and assault, additional arrests will be made, according to Sgt. Don Anderson of Edmonds police.
