This weekend, officers throughout Western Washington will participate in a 10-county effort to conduct the fifth annual “Surround the Sound” law enforcement emphasis patrol.
People who are out celebrating the Halloween weekend can expect officers to pay particular attention to drinking drivers. They will also be looking for drivers who exceed the speed limit, fail to wear safety belts or commit other traffic violations.
Officers conducting the emphasis are also urging drivers to be particularly careful on Halloween night when children are out trick-or-treating.
Last year’s efforts resulted in 151 people being charged with driving under the influence, 30 from Snohomish County.
Participating agencies include Arlington, Bothell, Brier, Edmonds, Everett, Granite Falls, Lake Forest Park, Lake Stevens, Lynnwood, Marysville, Mill Creek, Monroe, Mountlake Terrace, Snohomish, Stanwood, and Sultan Police Departments, the Snohomish County Sheriffs Office and Washington State Patrol.
“Surround the Sound” emphasis patrols will be conducted in Whatcom, Skagit, Snohomish, King, Pierce, Thurston, Mason, Kitsap, Jefferson and Clallam counties. It is coordinated by the Community DUI/Traffic Safety Task Forces and is supported by the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.
