Zwaller captures district boys golf championship

Archbishop Murphy’s Cameron Zwaller took first place at the 2A District 1 boys golf tournament May 15 at the Snohomish Golf Club.

Zwaller, who shot a two-day total of 149, will move on to play at state in Bellingham May 22-23 at the Bellingham Golf and Country Club.

Cameron Zwaller shot a 1-under-71 to finish first in the Cascade Conference boys meet May 8 at the Snohomish Golf Course. He was the only golfer to better par.

In the girls meet, Archbishop Murphy’s Michelle Grome won medalist honors with a 92.

Snyder snares four track and field titles

Archbishop Murphy senior Nick Snyder won four individual events at the Cascade Conference track and field championships May 11 at Cedarcrest High School.

Snyder, the defending Class 2A 110-meter high hurdles champion, captured the 110 hurdles in 15.09 and the 300 hurdles in 39.21. He also won the 100 dash in 11.18 and the 200 in 22.75. The Wildcats finished fourth in the team competition.

In the girls meet, freshman Lindsey Bos finished first in the 400 with a time of 1:01.94 and Sarah Schireman won the 300 hurdles in 47.14. Lauren Moran captured the high jump with a jump of 5 feet, 1 inch. Archbishop Murphy placed fourth overall.

King’s swept the boys and girls team titles.

Four Jackson golfers move on to state

Jackson had four golfers finish in the top 15 at the District 1 tournament May 11 at the Gallery Golf Course.

Senior Ryan Fitzpatrick placed 10th overall and was followed by Jeff Neeley (11th), Ryan Young (12th) and Huey Siemer (14th). The four qualified for the Class 4A state tournament.

Lakewood boots Archbishop Murphy

Peter Karrenberg registered the shutout in goal as Lakewood blanked Archbishop Murphy 5-0 in a loser-out 2A District 1 boys soccer playoff game May 10 in Duvall.

The Wildcats beat Burlington-Edison 2-1 to qualify for the district playoffs. Archbishop Murphy then lost 1-0 to Cedarcrest in a first-round district contest. The Wildcats finished the season 8-11 overall.

Wildcat baseball team ousted by Red Wolves

Mark Bishop hit a home run, walked twice and scored three runs to lead Cedarcrest to a 7-4 victory over Archbishop Murphy in a Class 2A District 1 winner-to-state/loser-out playoff game May 12 at Volunteer Field in Anacortes.

Archbishop Murphy finished the season 12-12 overall.

Following its victory over the Wildcats, Cedarcrest lost 6-0 to Burlington-Edison. Cedarcrest is the No. 4 seed from District 1. Burlington-Edison is the No. 3 seed.

Henderson tapped as new soccer coach

Archbishop Murphy named Dick Henderson as its new girls soccer head coach on May 11.

Henderson, who was the head girls and boys coach at Cascade from 1989 to 1991, won a state title with the Bruins boys soccer team in 1990. He has been an assistant with the Archbishop Murphy boys and girls teams in years past, helping coach the boys to the state championship in 2003 and the girls to the state title in 2006.
