BOYS SOCCER
Shorecrest 6, Lynnwood 0: Own goals by Lynnwood in the seventh minute and 35th minute put the Royals behind 2-0 and they never recovered in the 3A District 1 playoff game May 8 at Shoreline Stadium. Shorecrest’s Eli Blauser added two goals in the second half, one in the 45th minute (Erik Bracht assist) and the other in the 56th minute (Hiei Rose assist).
In the 60th minute, Maoulay Adjorlolo scored his first goal of the season (Travis Schade assist) and Ian Adams scored in the 68th minute for Shorecrest. Eric Baker and Sam Schober combined on the shutout for the Scots.
BASEBALL
Meadowdale 3, Sedro-Woolley 2: Taylor Brennan homered in the fifth inning and Sam Trice pitched a one-hitter, striking out 12 and walking five, for the Mavericks in the District 1 playoff game May 8 at Sherman Anderson Field. Andrew Suh put Meadowdale ahead in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run home run.
Jackson 7, Lake Stevens 0: Jackson’s Nick Kiel improved to 6-1 by holding Lake Stevens to just three hits while striking out six for the Timberwolves May 8 in the 4A District 1 playoff game at Lake Stevens High School.
“He had some nasty stuff going,” Jackson head coach Kirk Nicholson said.
Playing in the North division, Lake Stevens head coach Rodger Anderson said his team simply had not seen pitching of the caliber of Kiel all season.
“(Kiel) mixed his pitches really well and every time we hit the ball hard, it just was right at somebody. … It was just one of those games,” Anderson said.
Jackson senior Miles Brown batted 3-for-4, including a bases-loaded single and a two-run home run, and had four RBI.
Mountlake Terrace 4, Monroe 0: Aaron Brooks pitched his third complete game shutout of the season, scattering five hits over seven innings while striking out 13 and walking just one batter as the Hawks defeated the Bearcats May 8 in the 4A District 1 playoff game at Mountlake Terrace High School.
Austin Johnson batted 2-for-2 for Terrace with a double and a home run.
Glacier Peak 12, Lynnwood 3: After a disappointing first inning that left Glacier Peak trailing 2-0, the Grizzlies managed to turn the ballgame around, starting with a Tanner May solo home run in the second inning en route to a victory in the 3A District 1 playoff game May 8 at Shorecrst High School.
When Dylan Coneza doubled into center field later in the inning, the Grizzlies had rebounded with three runs and were on their way to the 12-3 victory. “They just out-hit us,” Lynnwood coach Adam Villalobos said. “They had some good at-bats and we didn’t pitch that great. They just out-hit us and out-played us.”
Lynnwood struggled with pitching. Starter Jordan Silva allowed five runs on six hits.
Josh Cabral has a good game at the plate for the Royals, batting 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored.
In the first inning, Cabral hit a RBI single to score the first run of the game and give the Royals the early lead. Later in the inning, Garner loaded the bases and allowed Lynnwood to score again.
The Royals have one more chance to extend their season when they play Ferndale on Tuesday at Shorecrest High School.
“We hope to bounce back and get a ‘W,’” said Villalobos. “This 3A playoff is pretty much wide open. There isn’t an overpowering team in it.”
