Shorewood slugger Luke Farden’s two-run home run helped the Wesco South seniors defeat their Wesco North counterparts 5-2 in the second half of an all-star baseball doubleheader June 3 at Everett Memorial Stadium.
The South took the lead for good in the sixth when Shorewood’s Tyler Tonkin scored on a single by Mountlake Terrace’s Nate Nicholson.
Stanwood pitcher Andrew Davis struck out seven batters in four innings to pace the North to a 5-3 victory in the first game.
ALL-STAR SOFTBALL: The Northwest 3A League/Western Conference fastpitch squad won the first Senior All-Star Challenge June 4 at Fort Dent in Tukwila.
NorWesco defeated the South Puget Sound/Seamount King Division all-stars 8-5 in the championship game. Shorecrest’s Geneva Hale hit a two-run single as part of a three-run second inning that put NorWesco ahead 4-1.
To open the four-team tournament, NorWesco defeated the Metro/Kingco all-stars 2-1. Mountlake Terrace’s Briana Knight drove in the winning run in the second with a double that was NorWesco’s only hit of the game.
GILLIES AWARD: Shorecrest’s Karis Grounds and J.D. Gardner and Shorewood’s Belinda Ho and Colin Ferris were among the 2004 Western Conference Cliff Gillies Award winners. The award is based on academic achievement, sportsmanship, citizenship and participation in student activities.
